When I was 16 years old, long before I enlisted in the Marines to serve our country, I served my local community as a Guardian Angel. We performed unarmed safety patrols through some of Tucson’s most dangerous neighborhoods. I was still in high school at the time, but my sense of service compelled me to volunteer with this unique organization. I was attracted to and impressed by the truly selfless service the Guardian Angels provided to the community. It was actually pretty dangerous. And it was almost always thankless. (No wonder I later wound up in the Marines!)
Looking back, it is clear to me that this was always my quest: To help; to make things better; to protect the vulnerable; to uplift the oppressed; and to serve. These are the reasons I am running for office. I am running to restore the concept of “public service” to public office. Public service must always mean selfless service. This is my unwavering belief and, should you elect me, my unwavering commitment to you.
